This week felt like it took a life-time to pass. I never knew things could get so busy in a small town. Not with people, but with things to do. And with Murphy’s Law, everything seems to happen at the same time!

In between all the madness, I realized that I have lost track of the reason I came to Sutherland – to find peace and quiet, and time to do the things I enjoy. But for a moment, I lost myself in administration, things to do, overwhelmed by little insignificant tasks.

Walking down a dusty road, wind blowing pieces of paper, twirling them up and down with the dust,  I battled with my thoughts - My thoughts were interrupted by an old bakkie, droning down the road, but it was the sheep that caught my attention. ‘Mêêê.......uuu…’ bleeting from one end of the main road to the other. As it softened in the distance, I found myself laughing precariously. Suddenly I realized how entangled I was with bits of nothings. Sure, I have a lot to do, starting your own business is challenging, and finding ways of making a life out of nothing is tough – there is a big BUT. I have a beautiful (although a little dilapidated ) home to which I can go every night. I always have food in the fridge, good company and a warm bed. That is all I need – nothing more. And the simplicity of life in a small town such as Sutherland becomes even more significant in moments of such epiphanies. 

In short, Karoo dust is good, and not even Murphy’s law should disturb life here.
