The origins of the farm and dark sky reserve Rogge Cloof (meaning rye ravine) date back to 1756, when Joachim Scholtz, the son of German and Nordic immigrants to Africa, acquired the property. Since then over more than 250 years, various owners have loved, nurtured and developed these hostile lands enduring lions, droughts, snow and freezing winds. Located at an altitude of between 1400 to 1700 metres, Rogge Cloof hosts magnificent clear skies and expansive plains.

 

Rogge Cloof is situated in the South African Great Karoo, roughly 350 km’s from Cape Town. Travelling by car from Matjiesfontein on the R354 towards Sutherland, Rogge Cloof is 15 km’s before Sutherland. Guests have the choice between fully catered or self catered units, activities on offer are Nature/Fossil drives, Wine tasting, Hike up Salpeterkop Volcano, Hiking, Biking, Star gazing etc.

Rogge Cloof accommodation consists of the Orion Suites (8 units), Waenhuis (Self-catering), Stables (2 units and self-catering), Oryx House (Self-Catering), Cedar Cottage (Self-catering) and Wolskuur (Self-catering).
