For a once in a life-time experience, try camping under one of the brightest night skies and stars, in a place known as the coldest place in South Africa – Sutherland? What’s more, the stargazing spot is right by the caravan park.
Jurg will amaze you with all his knowledge about the galaxies and clusters etc , he will show you amazing objects, all in our beautiful starry skies. It will take your breath away.
Sutherland’s caravan park is only one kilometer outside of town, towards Matjiesfontein, called Sterland Caravan Park.
The Caravan Park has seven (7)stands, all supplied with electricity and an ablution block with two electric geysers, to make sure you have a warm shower.
“Sitting next to your camp fire, looking up in the dark clear sky, you will be amazed to see the unforgettable Milky Way and stars from horizon to horizon, making you wish that you can see forever.”
The seven stands of about 10 x 11 meters, are nicely laid out between Chinese poplars and Soutbos. The surface is gravel and tent pegs can be easily knocked into the soil. The gravel is ideal because grass cannot take the frost in winter. The stands have got interesting Karoo bossie names such as, Kapokbos, Spekbos, Asbos, Renosterbos, Harpuisbos and Kriedoring.
Each stand has a small braai enclosure.
Tents and bikers are also most welcome. On the one side of the premises is a 14 meter diameter Muisbos enclosure, two meters high with a braai lapa in the centre, electrical plug and surrounding lights.
The ablution blocks have got a scullery in the centre, ladies shower and toilet and the one side and gents on the other side. At present we are expanding the ablution block as camping numbers are growing.
The ablution block is serviced every morning.
Washing lines are available, and wood can be obtained at the local shops in town.
